Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Friday, Feb. 6, is National Wear Red Day, an annual campaign to raise awareness about heart disease in women. February is also American Heart Month, so everyone was encouraged to wear this stunning color to help focus on cardiovascular risks and diseases.

This includes Windy Alonso (to the left of Dean Marianne Baernholdt in the second row) who is the inaugural Department of Nursing Research chair and an NIH-funded researcher, and whose work studies and promotes exercise interventions for patients with heart failure, advancing science that helps women (and all patients) live longer, healthier lives.
