Our first monthly Ambulatory Clinic Rankings are now posted on the UVA Health Data Portal. These rankings list the Top 10 Performing Clinics and the 10 Most Improved Clinics. The introduction of our rankings is consistent with the objectives of our new strategic plan and with our vision of being a best-in-class provider of ambulatory care in terms of our operations, patient experience, and work environment. 

What benefits do the rankings provide?
We anticipate that the rankings will accomplish several things:

• Acknowledge and celebrate high-achieving clinics
• Encourage top-ranked clinics to help other teams improve 
• Spark friendly competition and promote teamwork
• Inspire clinic teams to perform at their best and strive to constantly improve their systems, processes and methods
• Sharpen focus on multi-dimensions of performance and areas needing attention

What clinics are included in the rankings? What clinics aren’t?

• The rankings include Medical Center, Service Line and Community Practice Group clinics. 
• UVA Community Health clinics are not included yet, but will be added later this year. 
• The rankings exclude some clinics (those with less than an average of 150 visits per month) and procedural areas (COVID Clinic, infusion centers, sleep lab). 

What metrics are being used to determine rankings?
Rankings are based on a composite score of six key metrics from the Ambulatory Scorecard. (Note: Ranking metrics may be changed each fiscal year to focus improvement efforts where most needed.) Here are our current metrics and weightings:

1. Patient Access & Loyalty (55% of score)

• Clinic patient experience — Staff worked together (teamwork). Scoring is based on patient survey responses. 
• Provider-initiated cancellation (bump rate)
• New patient access within 14 days

2. Workforce (25% of score)

• Functional vacancy (All employees not at work, includes open positions, positions filled but not started and those out on leave)
• First year retention

3. Care Team Operations (20% of score)

• No show/late cancellation
