5 Nurses Left the Philippines to Pursue Their Dreams, and Now They’re Living Their Best Lives at UVA [VIDEO]
Yolanda Polintan, Charito Seguerra, Lynn Gallardo, Patty Mae Evangelista, and Marie Mendoza (retired) have an incredible story. They were all born in the Philippines and moved to New York City as young professionals to pursue nursing careers. Alone in an unfamiliar place, they found each other and became best friends. After a few years in New York, they started looking for a family-friendly city to raise their children. One by one, all five nurses moved their families to Charlottesville to settle down and work at UVA. Now 20 years later, they share their journey in their own words.
I have had the distinct pleasure of starting my career with Yoli, Chat, Patty Mae and Marie. They were like my sisters and moms at work. I am so grateful they chose UVA. Their work ethic,kindness and compassion were evident in all they did. Thanks Ladies!
I had the pleasure of working with several of these incredible women when I managed 5Central and 5West. They are dedicated, hardworking, excellent nurses who I will never forget. They individually and collectively have given so much to our patients, our teams, and our institution. We are lucky to have them as our colleagues!
I met these wonderful women at their 20th year anniversary celebration. Their energy and friendship are inspiring. They have made so many contributions individually and collectively. We are so fortunate to have their professional knowledge and experience at UVA. I salute you all!
