This week, the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association presented Richard P. Shannon, MD, UVA’s executive vice president for health affairs, with the association’s “Imagine A Virginia” Senior Leader Quality and Patient Safety Award.

According to VHHA, “the award recognizes individuals in executive healthcare positions from across Virginia who demonstrate leadership in patient safety and quality improvement that transcends the bounds of their hospital or health system. These leaders consistently encourage the development of a culture of safety and make patient safety and quality a top priority for their organization.”

As you will see in the video below, Dr. Shannon accepted the award on behalf of everyone at UVA Health System who applies the principles of Be Safe every day to improve patient safety and the quality of the care we provide. Thank you for everything you do to serve our patients.
