COVID-19 Vaccinations Set to Begin at UVA Health – Here Are the Facts
WHO
Notification emails went out Monday, Dec. 7, to the first group of UVA Health team members who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The group includes team members whose roles place them at highest risk of acquiring COVID-19 through work-related exposure. Vaccination is not required, but highly encouraged. Team members are being asked to carefully consider if getting immunized is appropriate for them.
WHAT
Government agencies have allocated an initial shipment of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine to us, and it is expected to arrive by mid-December.
WHEN
The window for booking first dose appointments will open on Wednesday, Dec. 9, and vaccinations are expected to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Team members will set appointments for their second dose during their initial visit.
WHERE
Special clinic facilities are being created to ensure vaccinations occur in an environment in which social distancing and other safety measures can be practiced.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Additional vaccine shipments are expected in late December and January.
- As vaccine supplies increase, other groups of UVA Health team members will be offered the vaccine. Ultimately, COVID-19 vaccinations will be offered to the entire UVA Health team.
RESOURCES FOR ALL TEAM MEMBERS
Because receiving the COVID-19 vaccine will be an important and personal decision, team members are encouraged to learn as much as possible about the vaccine and seek professional advice, especially if they have specific medical conditions or personal medical questions. Suggested online resources:
