Action Required for All Glucose Meter Operators: Complete Training to Access New System

Dear team member,

To ensure we are in compliance with the latest regulations for point of care glucose monitoring, UVA Health is replacing our Roche Accu-Chek meters with Nova StatStrip devices. Go-live is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Action for Glucose Meter Operators to Take Now

To prepare for this change, all glucose meter operators will need to complete a two-step training process:

  1. Complete a brief Computer Based Learning (CBL) module in Workday | This brief learning module provides a full operational overview of the NOVA StatStrip® glucose meter, including QC testing, patient testing, QC & Strip storage, battery charging, battery maintenance, and proper cleaning of the instrument.
CBL self-enrollment process – To enroll in the training module, use this log-in link: bit.ly/statstrip. You will be prompted to log into Workday and then automatically transferred to the Nova StatStrip learning module where you should select “Enroll.” It is suggested to work with your manager, as some may already enrolled their team members.

2. Attend in-person training - Sessions begin on Monday, Aug. 16 | Classes will be offered in 30-minute increments on-grounds and at off-site and outlying clinic locations. During training, each operator will be taught how to do the following:

In-person enrollment process – To enroll in a classroom session, use this log-in link: NOVA Glucose Meter Classroom Training. You will be prompted to log into Workday and then automatically transferred to the Nova StatStrip learning module where you should select “Enroll.” It is suggested to work with your manager to choose the appropriate way to enroll, as well as time and location for training.

Training Required for System Access

Participating in training is essential – only operators who have completed both training steps will be given access to the new Nova system. Anyone who fails to complete both training steps will not have access the system after it goes-live on Sept. 14.

Why is training is required?

While there are many similarities between the Roche and Nova glucose meters, the StatStrip device has two important differences that make training necessary:
