New SAS/PACU Unveiled; More Space, Efficiencies Added

On Monday, July 26, the new combined Surgical Admission Suite (SAS)/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) opened on the second floor of the Medical Center. The move is part of the second phase of the University Hospital Expansion Project.

“The expansion demonstrates an ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality, patient-centered care to all our patients,” says Kirsten Greene, MD, Associate Chief Medical Officer, UVA Health.

Features of the space include the following:

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, July 23, to celebrate the achievement.

“These redesigned spaces and workflows better suit the new second floor footprint and the way we work in our unique environments,” says Greene. “The benefits are extraordinary, and overall, provide better support for our care teams and our patients.”

SAS/PACU leadership thanks Perioperative Services including, the SAS and PACU teams, Facilities, Operational Readiness, Clinical Engineering, Health Information Technology, Environmental Services, and others for their collaboration and contributions.
