Donate to the Cafeteria’s Food Drive in April to Support Local Families

During the month of April, Morrison Healthcare, UVA Health’s dining vendor, is hosting a food drive in support of Stop Food Waste Day. Anyone can donate non-perishable food items in bins in the University Hospital Cafeteria and Wahoo West Café through April 30.

Departments and units that donate the most items will be entered to win prizes. First, second, and third place departments/units will each receive pizza parties, and a special trophy will go to the first-place team. Team members should take all their donations directly to the retail manager or supervisor on duty in the east or west café, so they can be tracked for the competition.

“The idea of the food drive is to stop food waste that may be occurring in your home from unused or soon-expiring products that are sitting in your pantry,” says Chadwick French, Director of Retail, who is leading the food drive. “What a better way not to waste those foods than to donate them to our food drive.”

Pantry items will also be available for purchase at cafeteria cash registers that can easily be donated.

Donated items will be given to the UVA Children’s Food Pantry and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
