The Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) honors up to two UVA Health University Medical Center team members each month with a BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award.
Chief Medical Officer Reid Adams, MD, and NPGO Nursing Recognition and Retention Specialist Ashley Noguera, PMP, surprised Terrance Rush, Cardiovascular (CV) Surgery Center, with a BEE Award.
Robbin Shifflett, RN, on behalf of the CV Surgery Clinic team, nominated the senior access associate:
"Terrance is a tremendous asset to us. He is a consummate professional, polite, courteous, and extremely approachable. I could spend hours singing Terrance's praises. I believe our patients and colleagues say it best. Here are just a few of the emails received regarding Terrance's value to our team and UVA Health:
Patient: 'We have been watching and listening and I want you to know these two people at your front desk are the most wonderful people — they do not hesitate to help anyone with whatever needs to be done including getting up and physically helping out patients/families. Excellent people skills. I have never seen anything like them in a doctor's office and we go to many appointments. You have great employees here!'
Cristina VanDerveer: 'Terrance's demeanor, efficiency, and assurance was very comforting to a patient's family. He was the first person to really set patient's wife's mind at ease that this [issue] would be taken care of thoroughly. Your staff quickly returned the paperwork to the family. I wanted to let you know how Terrance impacted a patient's care. Taking care of the needs of the caretaker is just as important as anything else. Please extent my heartfelt thank you to Terrance from me and the family. Terrance made me so proud of our UVA Health community!'
Lindsey Jones: 'Terrance goes above and beyond for each patient, treats everyone with respect, and is dependable! Not sure what we would do without him!'
Todd Marks: 'He went out of his way to help and we wanted to make sure he's recognized.'
April Howell: 'A patient showed up after 5 p.m. for an EKG .... Terrance offered to come help. He registered the patient, signed them in. Deb the RN checked the order and Deb and I did the EKG. Teamwork makes the dream work! The patient was very appreciative that we took care of him and they didn't have to wait, reschedule, or come back another day. I am very appreciative that we have a team that will jump in and ask, 'How can I help?' No reservations! No delay! Just take care of the patient. So proud to be a part of this team!'
MJ Davis: 'Terrance is wonderful to have! He takes his time and is patient with anyone who walks through the door. He is always a kind face and familiar face even if it is your first time within our clinic. Terrance doesn't mind helping his team members or leadership with any task. His kindness is contagious! His commitment to providing excellent support to our patients helps clinic access by ensuring patients are met with a smile and a helping hand. We are lucky to have him!'
Jackie Williams: 'Terrance is one of the friendly faces people see when they enter the Heart and Vascular Center. He is often mentioned in the patient experience comments for his friendly demeanor and willingness to help. First impressions count and he makes an incredible first impression! He is pleasant, professional, and a role model. He is very helpful and aims to move our work forward in a partnering way. He continues to grow in his role, is easily learning the scheduling process, and his personal drive to ensure our patients and team members receive the support they deserve is a testament to our ASPIRE values. Thank you for being such a rock at the front desk — for patients and team members! Thank you for always going above and beyond for the patients!
