UVA Community Health On Hand as U.S. Scores Victory at Solheim Cup International Tournament

The U.S. team defeated Europe 15.5 to 12.5 in the first U.S. victory in the Solheim Cup since 2017. And UVA Community Health was there — sponsoring and providing first aid services at the first major women’s competition held at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

The international women's golf tournament was in full swing Sept. 10-15 in Gainesville, Virginia. It began with a practice round and celebrity 9-hole challenge, and wrapped up with the tournament Friday through Sunday.

James Min, MD, Physician Market Executive, UVA Community Health Medical Group (pictured above left), served as Medical Director leading UVA Community Health’s 30 volunteers who provided first aid for spectators, in collaboration with Prince William County Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Min also served as the on-call physician for players and caddies.

UVA Community Health volunteers were stationed at two first aid tents across the course: one at the main entrance and one between the fifth and 12th hole. Anyone requiring a transfer off-site was routed through Prince William County Emergency Medical Services to the appropriate facility.

"Our healthcare team is dedicated to providing exceptional service and ensuring the safety of all participants and attendees during this exciting tournament," said Erik Shannon, Chief Executive Officer of UVA Health’s community medical centers and clinics in northern Virginia.
