Power Outage Update #4
(Posted Thursday, April 24, at 11:09 p.m.)
Dear Team Members,
Following up on previous guidance related to damage to the West Complex, impacted areas are on floors 1-4 of the north side of the Old Medical School, and spreading into the clinical department wing. Damage is still being assessed but appears to have impacted mainly faculty offices and research labs. Additionally, the Ophthalmology clinic will be closed tomorrow, April 25, to allow for cleanup. If you work in these areas of the West Complex, and are able to work from home tomorrow, please plan to do so unless otherwise notified by your leader.

Power Outage Update #3
Dear team members,
At this time, we have identified a fire at a Dominion Energy substation as the potential source of this afternoon’s outage. The fire remains contained and Dominion Energy has added stability to our electrical network.
Situational updates:
- Our steam and chilled water plants are back in operation, which will significantly aid our efforts to restore services.
- ERC MRI and one CT are down. All others are operating.
- Pneumatic tubes, Central Monitoring, and Glucommander are back online.
West Complex:
- The chilled water leak in our West Complex has been stopped. A permanent fix will take place overnight.
- As a result of the leak, there is extensive damage on floors 1-4 of the West Complex, impacting faculty offices and research labs. We are continuing to assess impacts, but damage to these areas appears to be significant. If you have offices on floors 1-4 of the West Complex, please plan to work from home tomorrow (if you are able to do so) and await additional guidance.
- Ophthalmology clinic in the West Complex will close tomorrow, April 25.
Central Sterile Supply:
- With our steam plant back in operation, sterilizing equipment will come back online within the next two hours.
Periop:
- As Central Sterile Supply services resume over the coming hours, Periop will be on normal operations.
Additional updates will be communicated, as needed.

Power Outage Response
Dear team members,
Late this afternoon, University Hospital experienced a power outage, impacting much of our equipment and systems. As of now, power has been restored, and some of our care teams have resumed normal operations; however, there continue to be multiple outages to our various systems, which we are actively working to restore. This includes pneumatic tubes, central monitoring, MRIs, CTs, and other equipment still being assessed.
At this time, a timeline for full restoration is currently unknown, but we are actively evaluating all hospital systems. Incident Command has been organized to lead this effort and will be reporting out updates, as needed.
