It’s Compliance Week!
Nov. 2-8 | To help bring awareness, the Corporate Compliance and Privacy Office is providing a flyer for teams — University Medical Center flyer or UVA Community Health flyer — to have as a refresher on HIPAA and the definition of PHI, and to share top tips for protecting our patients’ privacy. It’s a great resource and reminder, and the office hopes everyone will review this information with their teams this week. Visit Connect to get to know Krista Barnes, UVA Health Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer.

Leadership

The UVA Health Office of Team Wellbeing is recruiting for two clinical leaders (one staff, one LIP) for UVA Schwartz Center Rounds — regular, multi-disciplinary programs for healthcare staff to discuss the emotional and social challenges of patient care. These sessions provide a safe space for all to share their experiences, reflect on the human side of medicine, and build community. The goal is to support staff wellbeing, enhance compassion, and ultimately improve patient care. Read more about the evidence to support the benefits of UVA Schwartz Center Rounds. Interested? Send a brief synopsis of experience and interest and a CV to Teamwellbeing@uvahealth.org.

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. The 10th Annual tour de Midnight bike ride, benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia, was held recently in Rockville, Maryland. UVA Health was a platinum sponsor of the event, which raised more than $100,000 to help improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by epilepsy.
Teams of cyclists, runners, and walkers participated, including a UVA Health cycling team organized by Nathan Fountain, MD, Department of Neurology (third from left).
