Learn How This UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center BEE Award Winner’s Everyday Actions Support a Positive Work Environment
"I know I can always depend on Sincerae — if she doesn't have the answer, she will get it, and if you need help, she will give it!"
Congratulations to UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center’s newest BEE Award winner: Sincerae Simmons, Medical Unit Receptionist, Acute Care Services. The BEE Award celebrates team members for Being Excellent Everyday, recognizing the impact their collaboration with our nursing team has on the care we provide.
Charles Healey, Director, Food and Nutrition Services, Haymarket Medical Center, nominated Simmons, who holds certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical coding, and in-home childcare certifications.
Spreading Positivity and Offering Support
Her infectious positivity is one that we don’t want to contain, and her nomination highlights the difference she makes to everyone she encounters. Healey writes, “Sincerae's professionalism, her ever-present smile, and her positive can-do attitude make it an absolute pleasure to work here at Haymarket. Since the very first day I met Sincerae, she has looked to help and support our department. Whenever our paths cross, as a member of the Food and Nutrition Services team I know I can always depend on Sincerae — if she doesn't have the answer, she will get it, and if you need help, she will give it.”
Small Details Make a Big Difference
In busy healthcare environments, it can be easy for small details to slip through the cracks, but Simmons makes sure to keep track of what might be easily overlooked. As Healey explains, “She looks to support our department knowing she may not always receive recognition. She does it because she knows it will help ensure our patients and visitors have a positive experience while they are here with us. She will come down from the third floor to ensure our patients have menus for their welcome packets, and she notices little things, like the frequency the coffee pots are exchanged, offering reminders when necessary, which has a huge impact on the quality of coffee we serve.”
“She is always going above and beyond the scope of her duties, looking for ways to ensure patient satisfaction. She’s just a brilliant lady and we are better for having her here! Brilliant job, Sincerae, thank you!”
In Her Own Words
Simmons has worked for UVA Health for almost a year and a half, and explains that at this point in her career, she is “enjoying caring for nurses so they can better care for their patients.” When asked about receiving this award, she replies: “This award means that I am doing God’s work, what he has sent me here to do. Every day I strive to show God’s love and grace.”
