Dear Colleagues,

To support safe, efficient patient care during system interruptions, UVA Health University Medical Center will require downtime training for all applicable team members.*

Downtime can occur when critical systems, such as Epic, are temporarily unavailable. This training ensures teams are prepared to continue essential operations and maintain patient safety during these events.

Training details:

• Training window: Jan. 5 through March 31, 2026
• Format: Computer-based training available in Workday
• Time commitment: Approximately 20 minutes
• *Who must complete it:
  • All patient-facing roles
  • Ancillary services, including laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology
  • Required team members will receive notification via Workday when the training is available.

Looking ahead, downtime training for applicable team members will become part of new hire onboarding and will be added to Annual Required Training beginning in 2027. Additional information — including reporting details for managers — will be shared toward the beginning of next year.
