Ribbon Cutting Celebrates a Major Expansion at UVA Health Primary and Specialty Care Zion Crossroads

UVA Health team members gathered on Jan. 16 for a ribbon cutting celebrating the expanded UVA Health Primary and Specialty Care Zion Crossroads — a milestone that reflects years of collaboration and a shared commitment to improving access to care for Central Virginians.

The celebration brought together clinical and operational teams, project partners, and system leadership to recognize the opening of nearly 12,000 square feet of newly built-out second-floor space. The expansion adds 30 exam and consult rooms and a laboratory suite, enabling an estimated 50,000 additional appointments each year and effectively doubling the site’s capacity.

John Bennett, MPA, Chief Ambulatory Officer and executive sponsor on the project, reflected on the long arc of the initiative, from the medical park’s original opening in 2013 to the collaborative efforts and people that made this expansion possible.

Jason Lineen, MBA, Chief Strategy Officer and interim Chief of UVA Health Children's, highlighted how the expansion aligns with UVA Health’s strategic focus on thoughtful investments that improve access and patient experience. He emphasized the addition of adult allergy and inflammatory bowel disease services, bringing more coordinated, specialty care closer to home.

Terrie Edwards, MHA, interim CEO of University Medical Center, and Mitch Rosner, MD, MACP, FRCP, Chief Executive Officer, UVA Health, and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, University of Virginia, underscored the growing demand for care across the system and the importance of expanding access while maintaining quality, continuity, and sustainability of the health system. Dr. Rosner ended by saying that — while buildings matter — it is the team inside them who make care meaningful for patients.

The celebration concluded with a ribbon cutting and tours of the new space, marking an exciting next chapter for Zion Crossroads and the teams who serve patients there every day.
