Introducing Our HIT Vision: Support, Empower, and Innovate
To all UVA Health Teams,
Technology underpins nearly everything we do in modern healthcare. As UVA Health continues to grow and evolve in line with our One Future Together | Health & Hope for All strategic plan, it is essential that our IT services keep pace — and that they actively enable the exceptional care and research this organization is known for.
Today, I am pleased to share the Health Information Technology (HIT) team's new strategic vision, built around three words:
Support • Empower • Innovate
These pillars reflect our commitment to delivering the reliable foundation our organization depends on (Support), equipping our colleagues with the tools and data they need to excel (Empower), and pursuing the leading-edge technologies that will define the future of healthcare (Innovate).
| Support | Empower | Innovate |
| Reliable. Secure. Always on. | Tools and data in your hands. | Leading the future of healthcare IT. |
| • Stable, high-performance foundational systems • Minimal unplanned downtime • Robust cybersecurity infrastructure • Excellent customer service | • Increased self-service capabilities • Expanded access to data and analytics • Enhanced system interoperability • Efficient clinical and operational workflows | • Pioneering academic and vendor partnerships • UVA Health-owned intellectual property • Early adoption of emerging technologies • AI-enabled care and research tools |
Together, these pillars are not independent priorities — they are a progression. A strong foundation of support enables us to empower our teams with better tools and insights. That empowerment, in turn, creates the conditions for meaningful innovation. Each pillar reinforces the others, and all three are essential to delivering on the promise of world-class care and research at UVA Health.
We are already making progress. Initiatives underway include enhancements to remote access and in-building connectivity, expanded workforce self-service tools, improved on-call communication, and AI-enabled capabilities designed to ease documentation burden for our clinical teams. We are committed to sharing updates with you as this work advances.
To learn more about the HIT strategic vision, we invite you to join us during today’s (April 23) Tech Fair, hosted at University Medical Center, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the Education Resource Center. Stop by to connect with the HIT team, see some of these innovations in action, and ask questions you may have. We are also working to arrange similar events across the system, including within UVA Community Health.
Thank you for the trust you place in us. We look forward to supporting the work ahead.
