This is the latest installment in our Connect article series “Hope at Work” — showcasing inspiring stories about how our team members contribute to UVA Health’s 10-year strategic plan: “One Future Together Health and Hope for All.”No matter where you work, you have an opportunity to inspire hope in others. These stories show how:

UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center is continuing their partnership with Pepperberries through the recently revived Pamper Me Pink (PMP) Basket Raffle. Reinstated last year, the raffle provides a fun way to raise funds for the nonprofit organization, as their continuous collaboration with UVA Health helps provide free mammograms and imaging for those facing barriers in accessing care.

It Takes a Village

“The Pamper Me Pink basket raffle has become a spring staple at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center,” says Jeff Say, Program Manager, Community Engagement, UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center. “The team members and public look forward to the creative baskets curated by Pepperberries and our departments, and there is a lot of fun and competition in raising money for a good cause!”

He adds, “This event wouldn’t be possible without the PMP Committee. It takes a village to give back to our community, and we are proud to be able to support the underserved in our area.”

Creativity and Coordination

The team effort involved coordinating donations, creating baskets, advertising the event to garner participation, collaborating with community partners, and conducting the raffle. Alongside our team members, Pepperberries owner Sharon Welch Clark helped sell tickets, with our Community Engagement team reporting that visitors and team members alike were happy to see her, and the community atmosphere was clearly felt in the medical center while the fundraising took place.

Together, departments across the medical center, alongside UVA Community Health Medical Group clinics, created and donated 10 themed baskets, with an additional basket donated by Pepperberries. Baskets were created around themes such as:

Donations included comfort items, toys and games, body care, totes and coolers, snacks, and gift cards.

Ticket prices ranged from $1 to $20 for a set of 40. Selling nearly 6,000 tickets, the effort raised $3,003.36 for the Pamper Me Pink fund, surpassing the goal of $3,000. Funds raised go directly toward paying for patients to receive mammograms who can’t afford them or don’t have insurance.

Says Say: “We had a great response from team members and the public as well!”
