UVA Health’s Population Health WellAware Community Health Worker program team recently hosted their fifth annual Healthy Streets, Healthy People event in partnership with the City of Charlottesville and the Move2HealthEquity Coalition. Held at Booker T. Washington Park, the family-friendly community event featured engaging activities for all ages while sharing resources for street safety and environmentally healthy neighborhoods.

"The Healthy Streets Fair is what caring for your neighbors looks like in action," says Betsy Peyton, BA, BSN, RN, Director, Clinical Care Services WellAware. "This year, more than 50 organizations came out to offer resources, health education, safety trainings, kids' activities, gardening demos, and a free BBQ lunch. But it's more than just a fun afternoon — it's a chance to have real conversations about the things that affect people's daily lives, whether that's gun violence, pedestrian safety, healthy food access, or staying safe in the heat. We are committed to making our community safer and more welcoming for everyone."

Teams from UVA Health and UVA student groups played a big role in creating a successful day of fun and education for the Charlottesville community!
