Summer is in full swing, and the Market Square tradition is synonymous with the season. Every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Sept. 24, 2026 — take a break and visit the courtyard at MR5. Shop for fresh produce, baked goods, beautiful flowers, and unique crafts. And savor a wide range of delicious fare from local food trucks such as: 

• It’s Poppin’ Time: Small batch kettle korn, lemonade and limeade, and shaved ice and other frozen treats. 
• Little Manila: Filipino cuisine.
• Mexican Tacos: Family-owned for 20 years. 
• Mr. Baker: Gluten-free and vegan dessert options. 
• Miss Day Delights: Homemade treats. 
• Tealicious Cafe: Bubble tea, smoothies, and more goodies.

Charlottesville native George Minor, who is marking a milestone of his own — working for UVA HR for 20 years — came up with the idea for Market Square in 2014 and kicked off the first event in 2015. His motivation? "We wanted to bring a healthy work/life balance to our team members, patients, and families," he answers.
