Seen, Safe, and Cared For: Learn Why Patient Hails UVA Health Nurse as ‘Someone Truly Special’
"Adama Mansaray left a lasting impression on my heart."
“From the moment she entered my room, it's clear she was someone truly special," recalls a UVA Health Prince William Medical Center patient of her overnight nurse Adama Mansaray, BSN, RN, Nursing Float Pool team member.
And for providing superior care and more, UVA Community Health Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) has honored Mansaray with a DAISY Award.
Continues the patient: "Her gentle reassurance, calming presence, and simple act of kindness — rubbing my forehead and reminding me that everything would be okay— meant more than I can fully express.”
The patient says Adama reassured her by faithfully checking on her every hour throughout the night. “Her consistency, dedication, and genuine concern for my wellbeing made me feel seen, safe, and cared for in a way that goes far beyond standard nursing care.”
Adama offered support during what the patient describes as one of the most difficult times of her life. "Adama is truly an angel in disguise, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided. She left a lasting impression on my heart, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of recognition!”
Know a Fabulous Nurse?
"DAISY" stands for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System." The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of only 33 of an autoimmune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of his nurses — so they created this national award to thank nurses everywhere.
Patients or their family members; visitors; and team members can submit a nomination for a UVA Health Culpeper, Haymarket, or Prince William Medical Center, or Medical Group, nurse.
