‘A Cinderella Story’: Rev. Kevin Adams Is a Shoe-In for a BEE Award
“This is one simple, yet pragmatic, example of how he humbly and generously supports our team."
The Nursing Professional Governance Organization honors up to two UVA Health University Medical Center team members each month with a BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award.
In the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) — Sarah Kaplan, BSN, RN, Assistant Nurse Manager, nominated Rev. Kevin Adams, MDiv, PhD, for coming to the rescue of Williams Solomon, an international nurse. A sudden patient care situation led to Williams needing a new pair of shoes, STAT, to finish his workday safely.
"As our team was actively problem solving how to get our MICU nurse a new pair of shoes, Kevin was on our unit helping with another complex patient situation. He asked, 'Is there anything else I can do for you today?' Our Nurse Manager Kris Blackstone, MSN, MHA, RN, answered kiddingly, 'Do you happen to have a pair of size 11 men's sneakers?' Unbelievably, Kevin replied, 'Yes, I do!' A few minutes later, Kevin walked into the MICU — with his spare pair of size 11 men's sneakers in hand — just like Cinderella's slippers — fitting our MICU nurse's feet perfectly!
This is one simple, yet pragmatic, example of how he humbly and generously supports our team, by literally helping to provide an essential tool, such as shoes, to help during an unexpected situation. By Kevin's genuine act of kindness, our MICU nurse was able work safely in shoes, instead of slippers, and continue to care for our MICU patients the rest of his shift."
