‘An Immediate Ray of Sunshine’ — DAISY Award Winner Madison Miller Brightens Patient’s Stay
A patient nominated Madison Miller, RN, Mother/Baby, for a DAISY Award:
“My water broke at 19 weeks and I wasn't admitted into Antepartum until 21 weeks plus five days when my baby was considered viable. I was depressed, lonely, and enduring a traumatic high-risk pregnancy when I met Madison. She was an immediate ray of sunshine in my day. She was kind, bubbly and thoughtful. She could feel my pain and my worries, and sat with me actively through some very tough emotions. She didn't shy away when I was grieving. She would check on me even when she wasn't assigned to me.
"We requested each other and she became the main face that I saw on morning shifts. On days when I didn't have her, I missed her. And when she was back, I noticed I felt more hopeful and excited to see her. We became fast friends. After delivering my son, she visited me in post-partum. She even gifted me with a handmade baby blanket with my son’s name stitched into it. It was so heartwarming that she invested so much of herself into our situation.
"But that's just what Madison does. She is beautiful inside and out. Although I had a very traumatic, high-risk pregnancy, I look back on my time in Antepartum fondly — simply because Madison cared for me, my husband, and my newborn son. Thank you, Madison!”
