Dear UVA Health Team Members:

One of the key initiatives of our One Future Together | Health and Hope for All strategic plan is to make UVA Health the best place to work. Based on team member input during the strategic planning process and reinforced by feedback from the 2022 Employee Engagement Survey, we are excited to announce the launch of the UVA Health Leadership Institute.

The UVA Health Leadership Institute represents a critical opportunity to bolster our culture of fostering mentorship, advancing career development, and growing leaders from within the institution. Augmenting and complementing other UVA Health leadership programs, the institute’s mission is to provide leadership development opportunities for team members at different phases of their careers, from across all health system entities, with in-person and online learning options. Benefits to participants will include:

• Learning from experts on a variety of leadership topics, including healthcare-specific issues.
• Gaining skills that enable a pathway to future leadership opportunities at UVA Health.
• The opportunity to build relationships with senior leaders and a cohort of peers from across the organization.
• Greater exposure to health system operations.

Participants in the inaugural cohort will focus on topics such as the business of academic healthcare, personal branding and leadership styles, conflict management, change management, and strategic planning. Learning with a small cohort of peers, participants will set the stage for growth and development that can create a pathway to future leadership opportunities at UVA Health.

It will take time to realize the full scope of our vision for the institute, nevertheless we are eager to get started. The first class of the UVA Health Leadership Institute will begin this November and meet monthly through June 2024. We currently are seeking applications for participants who meet the following criteria:

• Early- or mid-career, approximately 5-10 years of cumulative work. experience in healthcare (at UVA Health and/or elsewhere)
• Demonstrate exceptional leadership potential.
• Currently employed by any UVA Health entity and invested in their future at UVA Health.

Applications may be submitted online and are due by end of day Monday, Aug. 28.

Additional details on the first cohort including topics covered, tentative schedule, and more, are available on Connect. We ask everyone to take an active role in identifying and encouraging emerging leaders to apply. While we anticipate a high level of interest in this first class that will exceed available space, please note that this is the first of many offerings from the Leadership Institute and more will follow in 2024.

The launch of the Leadership Institute marks a truly exciting milestone in our journey to make UVA Health the best place to work. We look forward to working with partners across the health system to transform health and inspire hope one leader at a time.
