Winter Alert Update #3: Weather Alert
(Posted on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 10:38 a.m.)
UVA Health Team Members,
In response to inclement weather through the weekend, our weather assessment team is continuing to organize to ensure our operations are prepared for any impacts. At this time, although the forecast has slightly improved for the immediate Charlottesville area, snow and ice accumulation is still possible for many of the outlying areas of our community, especially as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. As a result, some clinical areas have modified operations or will be closed, which are noted on our Operations Status Board: uvahealth.com/status.
As a reminder, for team members looking to stay on-site to avoid commuting this weekend, our Hospitality and Support Services team has arranged sleeping accommodations to support continuity of operations. If you choose to stay overnight, please come to the Front Desk of the Main Lobby of University Medical Center beginning at 7 p.m. today to get your sleeping assignment and toiletry kit. From there, you may proceed to the Battle Building for your room. On-site showers will also be made available.
Awareness
- Monitor weather forecasts via the National Weather Service, local media, and Virginia511 (for traffic and road conditions).
- Consider an emergency alert app, like Guardian, FEMA or the Red Cross.
Preparedness
- Protect yourself and family with a Family Emergency Plan.
- Pet owners should have plans to care for their animals.
- Put together a basic disaster supplies kit, or “Go-Kit” if you do not already have one.
- During severe weather, you may need to arrive early to work or be held over.
For real-time operational updates during this event, please visit uvahealth.com/status. Additional communications will be distributed, as necessary.
Stay safe.
