Angelica Gonzalez-Eskel, Foreign Language Interpreter, Language Assistance Program, was recently nominated for a BEE Award, which is an acronym for "Being Excellent Every day." UVA Health launched this program last year as special program to recognize excellence among the clinical support team members who work alongside our nursing teams delivering expert, compassionate care. This award program symbolizes the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team — the same way bees and flowers depend on one another. 

Angelica was nominated by a UVA Health team member, which you can read below. 

"I've had the pleasure of working with Angelica on numerous occasions in the Primary Care Center Family Medicine clinic and am always thrilled when I see her around the clinic helping for the day. She is always so warm and welcoming and our patients love her just as much as we do!

"Angelica always goes above and beyond to make sure that the discussions we have with patients are communicated well and understood. While I've witnessed this time and time again, we just recently saw a patient who is on two different types of insulin and has difficulty remembering her prescribed doses. Angelica stayed late on a Friday evening with me to make sure the instructions I was giving were clear. When we were finishing our visit and I was recommending new dosing instructions for her insulin, Angelica (without pause) started singing to the patient. In a matter of seconds, Angelica came up with a short, rhyming jingle to help our patient remember the doses of her two insulins and more specifically, which one to use before her meals. As we brought the patient to check out, the two of them were singing together down the hallway and Angelica even shared the song with the patient's family members who were there waiting for her. I am so grateful to have Angelica and appreciate her bringing such a positive attitude and light to patient care here at UVA!"
