Jackie Turner, PCT, 4 Central, was recently nominated for a BEE Award, which is an acronym for "Being Excellent Every day." UVA Health launched this program last year as special program to recognize excellence among the clinical support team members who work alongside our nursing teams delivering expert, compassionate care. This award program symbolizes the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team — the same way bees and flowers depend on one another. 

Jackie received this honor for being a great, supportive team member. Read the full nomination below. 

“Jackie is a ray of sunshine! She always comes to work with a smile and a positive attitude. At times, I believe that she somehow clones herself because of everything she is able to accomplish in such a short amount of time! Not only is she an amazing, reliable, and trustworthy tech to the nursing staff, but our patients LOVE her! When I am charge, I often have patients ask me if Jackie is working because they want to see her. You can hear Jackie's laugh from a mile away and she never fails to make her patients smile and laugh as well!”

“I could tell quite a few stories of how wonderful she is, but the most recent one that touched my heart was from this past weekend. Our staffing was not optimal — particularly with PCT coverage — and our unit was full. Jackie worked on Saturday and, on Sunday, we were down a tech. After she left on Saturday, she contacted our night charge nurse to let them know that she would pick up Sunday, 0700-1500, so that our other tech would not be by herself with such a heavy floor. When we arrived on Sunday, our other day shift tech was not feeling the greatest and so, instead of Jackie leaving at 1500, she told our other tech to go home, and she would finish the shift and stay until 1900. Then, Jackie took her kindness a step further and switched shifts with this other tech so that she had a few more days at home to rest and feel better before coming back to work. I am always amazed by Jackie and how she is always willing to help out and ensure others are cared for, which is why I think she is truly deserving of this BEE Award.”
