Brooklyn Mcgrew Receives BEE Award for Going Above and Beyond
Brooklyn Mcgrew, Patient Care Technician, Staffing Resource Office, recently received a BEE Award for taking special care of a patient’s needs.
UVA Health launched the BEE Award last year as special program to recognize excellence among the clinical support team members who work alongside our nursing teams delivering expert, compassionate care. This award program symbolizes the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team — the same way bees and flowers depend on one another.
Brooklyn was nominated by her patient. Read the full nomination below.
“In my almost 87 years, I have had the ‘opportunity’ to engage with many hospital staff members. Most often they are patient and kind. Brooklyn stands out as exceptional in terms of my experiences. She was extremely kind, patient, more than the normal expectation. I had a couple of accidents, and each time she came willingly and helped with kindness, gentleness, and caring. I appreciated that extra and above and beyond effort. No one feels good about a urinary accident but it sure makes it nice to have kind, gentle support. I knew Brooklyn was an extra special [patient care technician] when she first came in and introduced herself, updated the board so I remembered her name, and asked how she could help or if I needed anything. It may sound menial, but every interaction was above and beyond patient and pleasant. Wouldn't it be nice to have a hospital full of Brooklyns? I have the highest respect for medical professionals and am grateful Brooklyn was part of my care! She is special!”
