Donations Needed: School of Medicine Students Build Trauma Kits for Ukraine

It has been a little over two months since Russia invaded Ukraine. To assist Ukraine, The Mulholland Society — UVA School of Medicine's student government organization — is partnering with Mideast Rescue, a non-profit that provides casualty trauma care training to medics in the Middle East.

The Mulholland Society will be participating in the Lifeline Initiative — a support system for local civil servants leading the mission to save lives and empower communities. Lifeline Initiative is providing hundreds of individual trauma kits to seasoned rescuers and care instructors in Ukraine. These kits include tourniquets, wound packing gauze, chest seals, and trauma shears. Each kit costs about $45 to assemble. They sent more 200 kits last month and are hoping to send another 500 kits this month.

Please consider donating. All raised funds will go directly to Mideast Rescue’s Lifeline Initiative. Donations will be accepted until Sunday, May 8. Any amount is helpful. You can donate directly via Venmo to @Sheyna-Nathwani.

Learn more about Dr. Maria Geba, an Infectious Diseases Clinical Fellow here at UVA, and her most recent trip with Mideast Rescue delivering trauma kits to rescuers on the front lines in Ukraine. Questions? Contact Sheyna Nathwani, SMD25, at cuy9zn@virginia.edu.
