Due March 9: New Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Training in Workday Is Required for All Medical Center Team Members

Two new training models about sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) were just released in Workday Learning. All Medical Center team members are required to complete the training by Tuesday, March 9.

The Delivering Compassionate Care to Patients Who Are LGBTQ+ (Part 1) training module is required for all Medical Center team members. Team members will learn how using patients' preferred names and pronouns, and having knowledge of their sexual orientation and gender identity, contribute to high-quality, patient-centered care.

"This program is a great introduction to the needs of people who are LGBTQ+ and will help all team members better interact with anyone who is LGBTQ+, including our fellow team members," says Bush Bell, Administrator, Hospitality and Support Services.

The Documentation of SOGI Data in Epic (Part 2) training module is required for all Medical Center team members who have access to Epic. Team members will learn how preferred names, preferred pronouns, sexual orientation, and gender identity are collected and displayed in Epic.

“Our goal is to create an inclusive and safe space where all patients and visitors are treated with equal respect regardless of their race, age, color, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression,” says Bell. “Patients are at the center of everything we do at UVA. When they come to us, we want them to feel safe and welcome without exception.”

UVA Health provides gender-affirming care, services, and support for patients going through gender transition. Learn more about all of UVA Health’s LGBTQ+ services.

“UVA Health strongly supports the LGBTQ+ community,” says Bell. “Thanks again for taking the time to learn about your important role in this effort.”
