Elevate Your Impact: Join HIT’s Epic Super User Program
Are you passionate about supporting your team and enhancing patient care through Epic optimization? The Epic Training Super User Program is looking for dedicated team members to serve as trusted resources and leaders within their units.
What Is a Super User?
Super Users are essential members of the Health Information Technology (HIT) program who bridge the gap between front-line staff, Training, and Clinical Informatics. They’re active contributors who:
- Participate in meetings, assignments, and initiatives.
- Represent their unit’s interests and serve as liaisons.
- Collaborate on decisions that guide best practices and workflows.
- Help communicate and support changes in Epic functionality.
Who Can Be a Super User?
Super Users are nominated by their manager, director, or peers based on their professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to go the extra mile. If you’ve previously completed Super User training or have your manager’s approval, you’re eligible to join. Super Users support their team with Epic-related education, feedback, and hands-on help.
Why Become a Super User?
Being a Super User offers a variety of professional and team-based benefits:
- You’ll deepen your expertise in Epic applications, gain insight into system workflows, and have a direct voice in shaping solutions that improve efficiency and patient care. As one Super User shared, “I understand Epic better.”
- This role strengthens your professional portfolio, connects you with Clinical Informatics and Epic Training teams, and positions you as a leader within your department. Several Super Users describe it as a “great way to stay connected and be a resource on my department.”
- For your team, your involvement means real-time, knowledgeable support during downtimes, upgrades, and day-to-day questions. As one participant put it, “Being able to better support my team with the information I get from these meetings” has been a key benefit. Others shared that they value “being able to help my coworkers” and appreciate the “learning opportunities and ability to help my colleagues.”
- You’ll also stay in the loop: “Being able to stay up to date on Epic changes” is something current Super Users find especially helpful.
What’s the Commitment?
The time commitment may vary from month to month, but you can generally expect to spend 2–3 hours each month. There’s no formal end date to your role as a Super User, but your participation is expected on an ongoing basis — especially during critical post-go-live support periods. If you want to step down from your Super User role, simply notify your site liaison and unit manager so you can be removed from the distribution list.
What’s Expected of You?
- Super Users are expected to be actively engaged and informed. This includes completing necessary onboarding, including the "Art of Being a Super User" training, and participating in monthly meetings where updates are shared, and feedback is gathered.
- You’ll help disseminate information to your unit, support new workflows, and serve as a resource during audits, system changes, and Joint Commission readiness efforts.
- Your role is critical to bridging clinical operations with Epic’s evolving functionality.
