Epic Upgrade Complete: New Features Now Available
Dear Colleagues,
As the electronic medical record system for UVA Health, Epic is an important tool that our Health Information Technology (HIT) team actively supports and updates throughout the year to improve system performance, enhance functionality, and increase efficiency. At UVA Health, the HIT team typically implements two upgrades per year: one in the spring and one in the fall.
I’m pleased to share that early this morning, the HIT team completed an Epic upgrade across all UVA Health locations. This upgrade will help bring our systems up to date and give team members access to the newest features, including:
- OurPractice Advisories — BestPractice Advisories have been renamed OurPractice Advisories to better indicate that clinical decision-making content is defined by the organization. When team members search for advisories in a list (such as in SlicerDicer or In Basket folders), they will appear under O instead of B.
- Differentiated Emergency Contacts — The Patient Contacts activity has new sections to differentiate Emergency Contacts from Other Contacts and Inactive Contacts.
- Search Moves Front and Center — Search has been moved to a more prominent location at the top center of Hyperdrive and has a new name: Assistant Bar.
- Dark Room Theme Enabled for All Users — Team members can now tone down the screen’s brightness with the new Dark Room theme.
- Reporting Updates to Manage Patient Care and Productivity — Providers have more flexibility and selections with new dashboards, reports, and data models.

Thank you in advance for embracing this latest Epic upgrade. These updates further our strategic plan goal of strengthening our foundation to enhance our healthcare operations and improve health outcomes for all Virginians and beyond.
Sincerely,
Robin Parkin, CPHIMS, CHCIO
