Interoperability Team Receives 2020 Charles L. Brown Award for Patient Care Quality

The Patient Safety and Quality Committee of UVA Health is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2020 Charles L. Brown Award for Patient Care Quality is the Interoperability Team for their work entitled Technology Reboot: Implementing Best Practice Standards to Assure Outcome Excellence and Accountability. Congratulations to Amy Johnson, James Fiebert, and their large and multidisciplinary team for this outstanding patient safety and quality improvement effort that enhances care for patients and has significantly reduced infusion pump medication errors.

The runner-up is the Neuro-Oncology Department for their work entitled Genesis of Quality Measurements that Apprise and Improve the Interdisciplinary Care Delivered to Patients with Brain Metastases.

Honorable Mention goes to the Surgical Subspecialties Service Line - 5W (Daily Management System Implementation), Heart and Vascular Service Line - TCV-ICU (RN Acuity Tool Implementation), and the Women’s and Children’s Service Line - PICU (Sedation and Mobility).

This year, the 13 proposals were excellent, and special consideration was given to those that featured both the deliberate use of Be Safe tools and demonstrated significant improvement in patient outcome.

The Charles L. Brown Award was created to honor the late Charles L. Brown’s service and generosity to the Health System as a former member of the Health Sciences Council in the 1990’s. Through this fund, $10,000 is awarded annually to a UVA Health team of faculty and staff to recognize excellence in patient care.
