Safety
Develop an Emergency Plan and maintain an Emergency Kit (“Go-Kit”)
- If you are traveling, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
- Remember that roads, parking areas, and walkways can never be completely cleared of slick spots. Watch out for slips, trips, and falls when walking or entering and exiting your vehicle. Walk slowly, checking for icy spots. The safest path in bad weather may not be your routine path, so allow extra time for driving and walking. Snow crews focus on the two central walks from South Garage into the buildings so staff can get under cover in the shortest distance.
- Don’t forget your winter weather attire: boots, gloves, and a hat. Dressing in layers will also help retain heat.
- Plan ahead and add extra time for safe travel. View road conditions from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Virginia 511 site and mobile app.
If conditions change, we will update this information. Some off-site locations may have different schedules; contact your manager for instructions. Updated: Lodging Accommodations | Potential Winter Storm Sunday, Jan. 16-Monday, Jan. 17
Posted Jan. 13 | 2:51 p.m.
Dear UVA Health Team Members,
Weather forecasts are predicting a potential winter storm to impact our region on Sunday, Jan. 16, into Monday, Jan. 17. The National Weather Service is forecasting snow and cold temperatures over the weekend but are not offering snow accumulation projections at this time.
As a reminder, outpatient clinics will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. While this will lessen any possible impact the weather event will have on many of our ambulatory teams and patients, Medical Center leaders and the Emergency Management team have begun the planning process to support operations during this anticipated weather event.
A first step in this process has been to secure rooms for our team members who may need local lodging accommodations to safely make it in to work. Please see below for an update on current accommodations available for Sunday, Jan. 16, and Monday, Jan. 17. Reservations are available to faculty, team members, and their support individuals (spouse, drivers, etc.). Individuals are responsible for the total cost.
