MERCI Has Reopened and Is Accepting Supplies From UVA Health Facilities
The Medical Equipment Recovery of Clean Inventory Program – better known as MERCI – is open and accepting donations after temporarily suspending operations due to COVID-19.
Team members can help their departments by saving clean supplies and delivering these items to MERCI on Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Primary Care Center, Ground Floor, Room G105.
MERCI accepts the following materials (donations only accepted from UVA Health locations):
- Supplies that cannot be returned for credit
- Opened but not used/no patient contact supplies
- Deleted items
- Out-of-date items
When dropping off items, take note of the new guidelines:
- Wear a face mask
- Pause before entering to sanitize your hands
- Wait for a volunteer to bring you in
Healthcare facilities can produce over 6,000 tons of waste per day. Recycling medical supplies is one way to stop waste, save money, and help organizations in need.
For over 20 years, MERCI has accepted and distributed usable clean medical supplies to educators, students, researchers, and local and global non-profits without cost to UVA or recipients of the donated goods. Local partners include the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, the Virginia Wildlife Center, and the Charlottesville Pregnancy Center.
