New Training Module Can Help You Stay Safe During Active Attacker Situation
Dear Team Members,
As a healthcare community, we are all still grieving the tragic event and innocent lives lost on UVA grounds earlier this week. Through our sadness and shock, UVA Health is reaffirming our commitment to ensuring the safety of our patients and team members.
Today, we want to inform you about an important learning module — Active Attacker Prevention and Response Training — that is available through Workday. Designed to ensure team members stay as safe as possible during an active attacker event, this module consists of a seven-minute video that discusses the Run-Hide-Fight model, the UVA Alerts emergency notification process, and the importance of reporting warning behaviors that can precede a violent attack. Run-Hide-Fight is a national model that has been adopted on UVA Grounds and within the health system.
We encourage each of you to complete this training, and you can access it using this link: Active Attacker Prevention and Response Training.
Our hope is that you never need to take the steps presented in this module. However, taking time now to learn and think about what you would do if caught in a threatening situation can improve your ability to respond in a way that enhances your safety and wellbeing.
Sincerely,
