New UVA Health Websites Launch Oct. 22
The concept of becoming “One UVA Health” encapsulates a variety of work happening in our health system. For UVA Health Strategic Marketing and Communications, One UVA Health is the guiding principle behind a multiyear effort to unify an array of websites and truly reflect one UVA Health as a world-class integrated, academic health system — while making it easier than ever for patients to find care with our extraordinary clinicians.
On Oct. 22 — patients, referring providers and UVA Health team members will begin to see the results of this work as we launch new versions of uvahealth.com and childrens.uvaheath.com.
“Our websites are our digital front door and are responsible for making a strong first impression on patients as well as other health system stakeholder audiences,” says Lisa Badeau, UVA Health Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. “For the first time ever, UVA Health will have websites that are integrated and reflect our excellence in each of our core mission areas. They will deliver an enhanced patient and provider experience and lay the foundation for system growth.”
Key features launching this fall include:
- New navigation that creates visibility for all health system entities and allows for more seamless movement from one entity’s site to another.
- Cleaner, more streamlined page layouts that bring the UVA Health brand to life.
- News and Stories section that brings together UVA Health publications in one place. This is slated to go live in mid-November.
Together, these elements will help patients quickly and intuitively find the information they need. And when they find it, it will be presented in patient-friendly terms — paired with resources and stories and up-to-date provider profiles to help them more easily make informed decisions about their care, especially for those with complex conditions. Referring providers also will benefit from the new sites by finding clear pathways to connect with top specialists and collaborate on patient care.
Behind the scenes, significant technology and process upgrades have been made to enable many of the new site functions, including:
- Enhanced data, accuracy, and searchability of provider profiles — including new “accepting new patients” and “age groups seen” filters.
- The ability of UVA School of Medicine clinical departments, UPG Clinical Practice Group, and UVA Community Health to directly update key data in the provider profiles. This helps ensure quicker updates and greater accuracy, which is good for patients and providers alike.
- Improved video viewing that keeps visitors on our sites when viewing our growing library of video content.
- Increased flexibility for content managers to create attractive, engaging pages that meet their needs.
“The new sites strengthen UVA Health’s ability to compete and grow,” says Megan Stanley, Associate Chief, Digital Marketing, Content and Engagement Strategy for UVA Health. “If patients and referring providers can find care and related information easily on our sites — if they can have that enhanced user experience — the more likely they are to choose UVA Health.”
In addition to the UVA Health and UVA Health Children’s web properties, the Strategic Marketing and Communications team has begun work with UVA School of Medicine to overhaul its website to deliver an enhanced experience for its varied audiences — from learners to researchers to alumni. It will highlight UVA School of Medicine’s excellence in academic healthcare and showcase innovations and their real-world health outcomes that position UVA Health as a leader in complex care. The new site is on track to launch in spring 2026. Watch Connect in the coming months for updates on this exciting next phase of our web evolution.
“The launch of these new sites has been years in the making — a testament to the complexity of the UVA Health digital landscape but also our commitment to engaging all stakeholders in the process,” notes Stanley. “We are grateful to our numerous UVA Health partners in this project and hope they share our excitement and pride in delivering a more streamlined, user-centric, website experience.”
Please note: the site upgrade will begin at 8 p.m., Oct. 21 and users may experience downtime in the hours that follow.
