October Is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
UVA Health joins the annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA). Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the campaign emphasizes how the public and private sector can work together and to do our own individual part in building a secure online world.
Many cyber professionals are aware of the increasing number of risks and threats posed to the healthcare industry in our increasingly virtual world. At UVA Health, we want your help to improve our cyber posture and use the security concepts you are exposed to in the workplace to assist others in taking a safe and aware approach to cybersecurity, year-round.
Throughout October we’ll introduce a new cybersecurity theme each week:
- Week of Oct. 7: Recognize and Report Phishing Attacks | Learn how to identify and report phishing attempts to prevent ransomware and other malware attacks.
- Week of Oct. 14: Embrace Multi-Factor Authentication | Create extra barriers against threat actors by enabling multi-factor authentication on your accounts at both work and home.
- Week of Oct. 21: Use Trusted Password Management Tools and Strong Passwords | Take simple actions to craft and secure strong passwords and keep your digital life secure.
- Week of Oct. 28: Update Your Software — Prevent Malware Attacks | Always patch your software and applications when updates become available — don’t delay!
Please check out the security resources on the UVA Health page below and discuss these important cybersecurity topics with your team, friends, and family!
Each of us can get involved this October to help all of us at UVA Health be safer and more secure online.
Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
