Please Support Our Local Nonprofits and Give Where You Live

Dear Colleagues,

Fall marks one of the times of year when we demonstrate UVA’s strong commitment to supporting the nonprofit organizations that strengthen our local communities. The University’s “Give Where You Live” campaign begins today and runs through Dec. 31.

UVA has a long, proud history of supporting local nonprofits. We are encouraging UVA employees to donate directly to local nonprofits that serve the communities where we live and work. The needs in our region remain significant, and your contributions during the Give Where You Live campaign will make an immediate impact. The Give Where You Live campaign was established last year as an alternative to the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC); we are relying solely on the GWYL campaign this year and encourage you to use it as a way to provide important support to our community.

By donating directly through Give Where You Live, 100% of your contribution will go to the organization of your choice. You will find a list of local nonprofits, including those that have historically received significant support from the UVA workforce, on our local giving webpage.

We ask you to continue doing what the UVA community has done for decades: Be a good neighbor to our region by donating to a nonprofit of your choosing.

There are two ways to help:

1. Donate directly. There are many local organizations providing critical goods and services such as food, health care, education, housing, youth programs, and crisis assistance. You can find a list on the Give Where You Live webpage.

2. Consider adopting an organization or holding a fundraiser within your school or unit and donating proceeds directly to a local nonprofit.

UVA’s Give Where You Live campaign is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and support the organizations that do so much for our region. However you choose to give, we hope you will help uphold UVA’s tradition of being a good neighbor.

If you have questions, please feel free to write to localgiving@virginia.edu. Thank you for being a part of this important effort.

Best,
