Reid Adams to Become Chief Medical Officer; Search Begins for Chair of Surgery
Dear UVA Health Team Members,
In April 2020, in addition to being Chair of Surgery, Reid Adams, MD, was asked to serve as Chief Medical Officer as part of UVA Health’s leadership team to help lead our organization and teams through our COVID-19 response and beyond. Now, with a new Medical Center CEO and Dean of the School of Medicine in place, and after considerable thought, soul searching, and much discussion with UVA Health leadership, Dr. Adams has elected to continue in the role of Chief Medical Officer and relinquish the Chair of Surgery role.
To ensure an ongoing legacy of excellence and innovative leadership for the Department of Surgery, Dr. Melina Kibbe, incoming Dean, UVA School of Medicine, will be launching a national search for a new Chair immediately. We anticipate this will be a highly sought-after leadership position with a competitive field of highly qualified applicants. During the recruitment period, Dr. Adams will continue to serve as Chair until a successor is named and in place.
Particularly now, as we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, UVA Health is at an exciting turning point as an organization. Thank you for your hard work and engagement with our leaders as we work to define a shared vision for our future and set a course for success.
Sincerely,
Wendy Horton, PharmD, MBA
Chief Executive Officer, UVA Medical Center
Melina Kibbe, MD
Incoming Dean, UVA School of Medicine
