Sept. 7: UVA Medical Center Sickle Cell Month Blood Drive
The American Red Cross, UVA Health’s primary supplier of blood products, is facing a severe blood shortage. As the number of trauma cases, organ transplants, and elective surgeries rise across the country, the nation’s blood supply is being depleted.
Patients fighting sickle cell disease may require blood transfusions to avoid health crises. You can make all the difference by donating blood at this month's drive.
Eligible donors, especially those with Type O blood and platelet donors, are asked to make an appointment to give now and help save patient lives.
When Can I Donate Blood?
Tuesday, Sept. 7
noon-5 p.m.
Quayle Learning Center
Appointments required. Sign up by emailing giveblood@virginia.edu.
Swag alert: All donors who come to donate Sept. 3-7 will receive a 16-ounce Red Cross campfire mug (while supplies last).
Prepare for your donation: eat well, stay hydrated, and bring your ID.
Can’t make the above dates? You can still be a life-safer!
If the date and time listed above do not work with your schedule, you can still donate. Schedule an appointment with the American Red Cross at RedCrossBlood.org or call 800.733.2767.
