Straight to Site Visit! Magnet Appraisers to Arrive Feb. 24, 2025 at UVA Health University Medical Center
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)’s Magnet Recognition Program has announced four appraisers will conduct a site visit from Monday, Feb. 24 through Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 at UVA Health University Medical Center — the final step in the Magnet® redesignation process that happens every four years.
Magnet honors healthcare organizations for quality patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, nursing excellence, and innovations in professional nursing practice. There are only 613 Magnet-designated organizations around the world, with fewer than 10% earning Magnet designation in the United States.
“Magnet is important not just as a reward or an achievement, but as the very best evidence-based framework for nursing excellence,” says UVA Health University Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Baker, PhD, RN, NE-BC, FAAN. “It is a validation that nursing excellence is a part of who we are as a professional nursing team.”
There are two main components of the Magnet designation process: documentation and site visit. University Medical Center’s Magnet core team submitted the required documentation on Oct. 1, 2024. ANCC reviewed the 2024 Magnet Document — and we’re excited to report — notified University Medical Center on Dec. 12, 2024 that University Medical Center will proceed “straight to site visit!”
The document showcases examples of nursing’s expert caring, quality achievement, innovation, empowered leaders, and lifelong learning tenets — representing the amazing care provided for our patients and families — and examples of how University Medical Center nurses “live” the theoretical framework of relationship-based care.
“Magnet is important to us as an organization,” says Jennifer “JT” Hall, MSN, RN, CNL, Director, University Medical Center Nursing Professional Practice, Magnet Recognition Programs. “It supports the goals of our strategic planning, positions us well in the market, and contributes to our rankings. It also helps us recruit because it demonstrates our commitment to an environment of excellence and high professional standards.”
