Hoos Building Bridges UVA Health Awardees

The Hoos Building Bridges Award is a testament to the collaborative spirit among UVA team members, recognizing their remarkable efforts in establishing cross-disciplinary partnerships and fostering success across Grounds. On June 27, President Ryan celebrated the achievements of nine individuals and two fantastic teams who have excelled in building bridges within the University. I am very pleased to share that two of the selected individuals and the two teams were from UVA Health.

Kidney Transplant Team

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and recognition to the outstanding members of the Kidney Transplant Team at UVA Health. Over the past fiscal year, this team's accomplishments have been nothing short of extraordinary, including reaching the milestone of performing the 3,000th adult kidney transplant. Their efforts have resulted in UVA Health experiencing its most successful year to date for kidney and pancreas transplants. This includes 215 successful surgeries with the outcomes surpassing national benchmarks, over 1,400 new referrals to the program, and nearly 400 patients listed for transplant. Moreover, they have developed practices that are at the leading edge such as utilizing hepatitis C+ and COVID+ donors, exploring innovative organ preservation techniques, as well as novel methods of immunosuppression. Thanks to the entire team, including physicians, surgeons, APPs, specialized nurses, HLA lab staff, dieticians, medical assistants, social workers, office and clerical staff, administrators, and the selfless organ donors who make these transplants possible. Your invaluable contributions are making a profound difference in the lives of our patients. Keep up the phenomenal work!

UVA Health culpeper medical center

UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center

In 2021, UVA Health embarked on a significant journey to integrate UVA Community Health into the UVA Health system, aligning with the UVA Health 2022-2032 Strategic Plan. This integration has united four medical centers as well as their outpatient services and two medical groups into one cohesive health system, driving patient-centered care and fostering collaboration. Achieving the final phase of integration in June 2023, UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center successfully migrated to the UVA Health instance of Epic and other IT systems, marking a pivotal step towards the realization of a One UVA Health Team. The tireless efforts of our dedicated team members deserve high praise. They seamlessly integrated 265 IT applications, impacted 4,698 individuals, and successfully trained 3,958 team members, investing a staggering 30,000 hours into this endeavor. I would like to extend special recognition to the Health Information Team, whose exceptional work earned them the impressive “Good Install” award from EPIC for their tremendous success in this installation. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in this monumental achievement, which has already enhanced the patient experience while enabling our providers and care teams to deliver care more efficiently.
