The Results Are in for Socktober, and 3 Areas Are Getting a Party
In October, University Hospital Cafeteria and Wahoo West Café collected socks to support those in need in the Charlottesville community. You all did such a great job: 3,119 pairs of socks were donated!
The areas who contributed the most socks, which will be donated to The Haven and The Salvation Army, will celebrate with a pizza party or novelty ice cream party. Here are the results:
- 1st place: Risk Management - pizza party
- 2nd place: PACU - novelty ice cream party
- 3rd place: Clinical Engineering - novelty ice cream party
Action requested from winning departments: A representative from each Risk Management, PACU, and Clinical Engineering should contact Chadwick French, Director of Retail, at cf4cp@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu, to arrange your party.
Socktober’s mission is to keep feet warm, dry, and clean in local communities. Morrison Healthcare, UVA Health’s dining vendor, brought Socktober to Charlottesville after their teams across the country donated over 60,000 pairs of socks last year. Clean socks are the top-requested yet least donated item at homeless shelters. Living on the street, many unsheltered individuals rarely take their shoes off, walk often, and don’t always have access to laundry facilities.
Thanks, Chadwick, for coordinating this and Congratulations to Risk Management! What a wonderful thing to do for our community!
Congratulations to all the winners and the donators for their generous contributions!
