Transplant Hosted an A-door-able Decorating Contest
Anyone who walked through Transplant Services recently was greeted with hallways of holiday cheer. The Transplant team wanted to end the year with a little bit of lighthearted fun and created a door decorating contest complete with prizes.
About 90 team members decorated 15 doors in their areas. Each door represented the different organ groups that care for their patients, and they incorporated all sorts of festive trimmings, like lights, garlands, and even photos of the team.
“They were all so amazing with many different themes and craftsmanship,” says Stephanie Grande, RN, Care Coordinator. “People dressed up, gave out special treats, and we just had a lot of fun. I think that everyone enjoyed it because each team got to come up with their own ideas, be a bit competitive, have fun, and have some social time, which has really been missed.”
The contest judges were Kathy Baker, Chief Nursing Officer; Veronica Brill, Associate Chief Nursing Officer; and TJ Lovdal, Professional Nursing Staff Organization President.
First place went to the liver team, who will receive a team luncheon. There was a tie for second place between the social work office and the north kidney office, who will each receive a round of coffee.
Grande says morale has been low due to the pandemic, so she and Christy Hodge, RN, Nurse Manager, were excited to bring some fun back into the environment.
“Transplant is the toughest job you will ever love,” says Hodge. “It was very nice to have meaningful time with our nursing leadership.”
The teams also collected food donations for the Blue Ridge Food Bank and personal care items for Cedars Healthcare Center.
