Dear Colleagues,

After nearly three decades of dedicated service, Chief Revenue Officer Brent McGhee has announced his retirement from UVA Health, planned for the end of March. 

Throughout his tenure with UVA Health, Brent has provided exceptional leadership, guidance, and commitment. He played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s revenue cycle operations, leading through periods of incredible challenge, growth, and change. Specifically, some of Brent’s key accomplishments include:

• Oversight of the significant and complex – yet highly successful – conversion of UVA Health to the Epic system, and integration and Epic conversion of three UVA Community Health hospitals and the UVA Community Health Medical Group. 

• Establishment of a consolidated corporate revenue cycle that aligned teams and functions supporting both professional and hospital claims across the enterprise, driving consistency and efficiency.

• Management and mitigation of the largest healthcare cyber event in U.S. history that shut down all claims and payment operations, implementing rapid mitigation strategies to minimize disruption and protect UVA Health cash flow.

Beyond these considerable professional accomplishments, Brent has been a trusted leader, mentor, colleague, and friend. He has fostered a culture of accountability grounded in strong partnerships, integrity, and continuous improvement across his teams. His dedication to developing teams and fostering collaboration has left a lasting legacy across the organization. The impact of his contributions will be felt for years to come. 

On a personal level, I greatly admire Brent personally and professionally. I have learned a great deal from him in a very short period of time. Speaking on behalf of many of us, he will be sincerely missed and not easily replaced. 

Please join me in expressing our overwhelming gratitude to Brent McGhee for 28 incredible years of service and leadership to UVA Health. We wish him and his family continued success, happiness, and fulfillment in this next chapter.
