IV Fluid Shortage Update
As of Oct. 28, we entered another week of IV fluid shortages, requiring you to continue the hard work of conserving what we can, while also providing outstanding patient care. Another week in, and we are getting closer to receiving supplies from other vendors — both nationally and internationally — which we hope will replenish our stock in the near future. We will also continue with most elective procedures this week, while keeping a close eye on our supplies.
Given that our conservation measures and weekly allocations have become steady and largely predictable, we have made the decision to move our updates to every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (versus daily). To access the latest playbooks, visit the FAQs. Questions? Email IVshortage@uvahealth.org.
Improvements to Epic’s Health Maintenance Activity Coming Nov. 3
The most recent Epic upgrade included changes to the Health Maintenance activity in Epic, with an updated design and new functionality. Some clinicians have expressed frustration with the additional clicks that are needed to see the completion histories for each topic. We heard you! On Nov. 3, additional improvements are coming, letting you see those details on the main report, while still offering the ability to get more information by clicking on an individual topic.

IV Fluid Shortage Update
Given our current situation — as well as our status as a leading tier one hospital in the region — we have made the decision to begin opening up for transfers, which have been restricted since this crisis began. While we anticipate this adding to our census, and thus our fluid use, UVA Health is in a better position that some other medical facilities in the region, meaning that patients are relying on us to receive care. As we open up for transfers, we will keep a very close eye on our total census and fluid use, and make adjustments, as needed. During this time, please continue the conservation practices that have contributed to our successful response.
Thank you for everything you are doing. We remain enormously appreciative of your efforts. Review the conservation playbooks in the FAQs. Questions? Email IVshortage@uvahealth.org.

Nurturing the Next Generation of Nursing Students: Community Medical Centers Launch Externship Program
UVA Health is recruiting nursing students for its new nurse externship program at its community hospitals and clinics throughout the UVA Community Health arm of the organization. Beginning in June 2025, the program aims to nurture the next generation of nurses in a community medicine setting.
Nursing students entering their final year of nursing school will benefit from eight weeks of supervised, on-the-job educational opportunities and hands-on training. UVA Health nursing teams will benefit from the additional support. This is a full-time, supervised, paid externship — allowing students to partner with preceptors and follow their schedules.
“Nurse internships are not new. Many hospitals have had them, but we’re seeing fewer due to COVID-19," says Michelle Strider, RN, MBA, CPHQ, Chief Nursing Officer, UVA Health community medical centers and clinics in Northern Virginia and Culpeper.
The program aligns with several UVA Health strategic plan initiatives, starting with cultivating healthy communities and belonging for all — and strengthening our foundation. By vetting nursing students, we are ensuring we offer a strong foundation for patients across the community.
Applications open December 2024. Externs will be selected and notified in February 2025. The externship will begin in June 2025. If you know of a nursing student who might be interested, reach out to Lisa Case at lisa.case@uvahealth.org. Learn more and read the full story on Connect.

IV Fluid Shortage Update
As we get deeper into the IV fluid shortage, we are now seeing supply limitations for specific products that will require our operations to adjust or find alternatives. This applies, in particular, to bagged irrigation fluids used in our perioperative space, as well as Prismasol, which is also now on allocation. Please continue to be vigilant in conserving whatever fluids you can without compromising patient safety.
One alternative we want to immediately advise our team members against is using injectable saline in place of bagged irrigation fluids. While we know irrigation fluids are in short supply, we need to preserve injectable saline for medication administration, so please avoid whenever possible. If you have questions or concerns, please escalate to perioperative leadership.
In the meantime, we are confident enough in our supply to carry on with most elective procedures for both Monday and Tuesday, but will be carefully monitoring our stock of IV fluids – as well as what we expect to receive from our supplier early next week – before making decisions for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week. Expect more communication on this in the near future. Review the conservation playbooks in the FAQs. Questions? Email IVshortage@uvahealth.org.

Appreciation
‘Wow. Thank You.’ | Kudos for Our UVA Health Colleagues
To best serve our community, UVA Health regularly surveys our patients on their healthcare experience. Below is a selection of feedback praising our team members:
- “I've had a handful of MRIs on my brain. I have to say this was the easiest, most relaxing one out of all of them. My MRI technician, Michael, was very accommodating in every way. Very patient and sweet. Everything was explained as we went along. The test was only 20 minutes. And I walked out of there without any headache. The whole team worked together beautifully. I'll do it again tomorrow if I had too. Thank you, UVA Health, for a great experience.”
- “I was very impressed with the care I received. Everyone did an outstanding job helping me. I am an RN, and I am very impressed with the care I received — from the ER, to the cath lab — CICU nurses, residents, cardiologist, MSW, dietary, housekeeping. Wow. Thank you.”
- “Linda, Rob, Charlie, Stephanie, Rockland, Godfrey, Jim, Deena, George, Anna, Bri, Carrigan, Shelley, Dr. Bashir, Dr. Pham, Dr. Tsonis, Dr. Kat, Dr. Herrington and the Blue Team, nurse Stephanie, Greg, nurse Ashley, and the entire nursing staff and team. Every doctor, every nurse, and every positive patient have all made this eye-opening experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity enjoyable, and a time I will never forget. Thank you to the chefs who prepared our meals. Thank you, 5 East!”
Thank you to all team members for providing outstanding, compassionate, and safe care!

IV Fluid Shortage Update
Thank you for your continued efforts to conserve IV fluids. On Monday, we received our weekly allocation from Baxter and have worked to validate our inventory. While we are pleased to have received 60% of our normal allocation from Baxter, supply chain pressures persist as health systems across the country are sourcing many of the same alternatives that we are and as vendors adjust to the complexities of sourcing product from Europe. This means that there is less predictability in the supply chain and what we can count on to receive each week. As such, your consistent, careful efforts to conserve IV fluids for the foreseeable future remain critical.
After careful review of our supplies for the remainder of the week, some elective cases that use a large volume of irrigation fluids scheduled for Thursday and Friday may be postponed. Please stay tuned for updates on the perioperative schedule. Review the conservation playbooks in the FAQs. Questions? Email IVshortage@uvahealth.org.

Powerful Tool
More news to note this 2024 Pharmacy Week:
Rachael Stone, PharmD — UVA Health Neurology Clinical Pharmacist and UVA School of Medicine Department of Neurology Research Assistant Professor — has received a $400,000 grant from the American Heart Association as part of the Second Century Implementation Science Award. Stone is serving as principal investigator, with co-investigators Brad Worrall, MD, Professor of Neurology and UVA Health vascular neurologist, and Eli Williams, PhD, Associate Professor of Pathology and Director of Clinical Genomics at UVA Health.
The team has launched an implementation science study to evaluate best methods for pharmacogenomic information to guide choice of an antiplatelet agent for secondary stroke prevention. Pharmacogenomics studies how variations in a person’s DNA may help predict medication response.
After some types of ischemic strokes, a combination of two antiplatelets agents is sometimes prescribed to prevent another stroke. One of these agents — clopidogrel — is less effective in individuals with specific variations in the CYP2C19 gene. There is a different medication that may work better for them. The team aims to identify patients with these variants, so they can be prescribed the alternative medication.
As part of the study, Williams and his team have built a CYP2C19 genotyping assay on-site — the first pharmacogenomic test available in-house at UVA Health. It’s available to order for clinical use outside of the research study, too. The turnaround time for the test is about 24 hours, Monday through Friday. It’s ordered in Epic; results are returned in the Epic results tab.
"I’m very excited to have the opportunity to bring this cutting edge technology to UVA Health and to investigate strategies for implementing this testing at more institutions nationally and internationally,” says Stone. “Pharmacogenomics is a powerful tool that can be used to improve health equity across diverse genetic ancestries with regard to medication management, and I'm hopeful our work will help integrate this technology into clinical standard of care."

In addition, we have received no new stock and have not heard of a date when we might receive more from our distributor. Review the FAQs. Questions? Email IVShortage@uvahealth.org.

‘A Pretty Good Use of Our Might’
This National Pharmacy Week, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions pharmacists and technicians make year-round to patient care in pharmacies, hospitals, outpatient clinics, community, and more. Case in point: at Woodbrook Elementary School in Charlottesville, the UVA Health Pharmacy team provided a “catch-up opportunity” for school-required vaccines for more than three dozen students from Albemarle County grades K-12. (From left: Joe Aloi, Manager, Pharmacy Clinical Services; Vesser; Parker; Carrie Kovacik, PharmD, Manager, Pharmacy Supply Chain; and Russ.)
Jackie Martin, Director, UVA Health Community Partnerships and Health Equity, connected the team to the school.
“A pretty good use of our might,” says Justin Vesser, PharmD, MS, Director, UVA Health Ambulatory Pharmacy. “Here’s to wielding our expertise and resources for those who need it the most!”
Greg Gelburd, DO, assessed students for which of the seven required vaccines they needed — DTap; Tdap; polio; hepatitis A and B; measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR); and varicella — and ordered accordingly. Rachel Russ, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager; John David Parker, Pharmacy Manager; Tracey Hoke, MD, Chief, Quality, Performance Improvement, and Population Health, UVA Health University Medical Center, served as immunizers.
UVA School of Medicine student Mira Bagous helped organize follow-up doses while classmate Lucie Lefbom and intern Krystal Repack served as Spanish interpreters on behalf of the Latino Health Initiative.
“It is well studied that completing a robust education is a key success factor in breaking through barriers including poverty,” says Vesser. “We can make sure they have the shots they need to stay in school.”
Tyler Gauthier, Director, UVA Health Digital Transformation, hailed the team for “demonstrating their alignment with our UVA Health strategic plan to cultivate healthy communities and foster a sense of belonging for all.”

IV Fluid Shortage Update
On Oct. 17, we received an important update from Baxter, our primary supplier of IV fluids, dialysis fluids, TPN components, and irrigation fluids — all of which have been impacted by the ongoing shortage. Baxter informed us that we should expect to maintain a 60% allocation on most products for the coming weeks. As of this time, though, we have not received any new product and are awaiting confirmation of a delivery date. Please note that this does not include irrigation fluids, which will remain at a 40% allocation until further notice.
While this represents progress in their recovery, it does mean all areas will need to continue mitigation strategies for the foreseeable future until our supply is fully restored — a process that may take until the end of the year. In the meantime, we continue to look for alternative providers — both nationally and internationally — to help fill the gap in our allocation.
Similar to our previous messages this week:
- Continue all mitigation strategies (as outlined in the playbooks in the FAQs) and reinforce this message among your teams.
- Be mindful of and judicious with ALL fluids, even those products not currently on allocation, as future shortages on alternative products may be forthcoming.
- We will continue perioperative procedures through Friday and evaluate next week’s schedule on Oct. 18.

UVA Health Websites to Be Available in Spanish, Korean, Arabic, and Dari
Effective Tuesday, Oct. 22 | As part of UVA Health’s ongoing journey to enhance its online presence, uvahealth.com and childrens.uvahealth.com will implement a Google Translate tool that will enable patients and other visitors to view our website content in Spanish, Korean, Arabic, and Dari with the click of a button. This new feature will provide a more inclusive and accessible online experience for our patients and other site visitors. Spanish, Korean, Arabic, and Dari were selected in partnership with Language Services teams at University Medical Center and UVA Community Health because they are the most in-demand languages for translation services. Please note that street addresses, clinic names, provider names, and employment category (e.g., independent provider, UVA Health provider, etc.) will not be translated.

Appreciation
‘I Could Not Ask for a Better Doctor’ | Kudos for Our UVA Health Colleagues
To best serve our community, UVA Health regularly surveys our patients on their healthcare experience. Below is a selection of feedback praising our team members:
- “Of all the doctors I've seen in my 80 years, I can think of only three whom I would rate as superlative in every metric of caregiving — professionalism, expertise, manner, concern, and on and on. Dr. Gimple is one of the three. Dr. Gimple never rushes through an appointment. He is always up-to-speed on my medical history. He asks questions and listens to my answers. He makes me feel like we are partners in search of the best way forward. My wife and I feel relaxed and comfortable with him. When I see Dr. Gimple, I am reminded that none of my other providers — good as they are in terms of knowledge, concern, manner, and so on — occupy the same plane as he does. I am fortunate to be in his care, and UVA Health is fortunate to have him on staff.”
- “I can't say enough about Dr. Evan Heald. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable in his field but also genuinely compassionate and attentive. He takes the time to listen carefully to concerns and always explains things in a way that are easy to understand. His caring nature is evident in the way he follows up and ensures that all aspects of your health are addressed. Dr. Heald goes above and beyond, and it's clear that he truly cares about the well-being of his patients. My family and I could not ask for a better doctor.”
- “Since the sonographer and medical doctor see dozens of patients in a short period of time, I was absolutely amazed at how elated they both seemed to be when they delivered the good news to me that I had a cyst and no evidence of cancer!”
Thank you to all team members for providing outstanding, compassionate, and safe care!

IV Fluid Shortage Update
Earlier this week, University Medical Center received a 60% allocation of most IV fluids, which is significantly higher than the 40% from one week ago. While the increase is welcomed, we still do not know when the Baxter facility in North Cove, NC, will be at full production. Additionally, we have not received any additional supplies beyond our allocation and — at this time — no additional supplies are on their way. As such, maintaining our stock of IV fluids may become more difficult in the coming weeks as inventories get smaller. To prepare for this, we need you to do everything you can to conserve what supplies we have by referencing the playbooks. They, along with other details, can be found in FAQs.
For our perioperative team, we will continue with most elective procedures on Thursday. In addition, we are in the process of converting some cases that used bagged irrigation fluids to bottles, which may allow for procedures that would otherwise have been canceled due to high irrigation fluid use. Questions? Email IVShortage@uvahealth.org.

IV Fluid Shortage Update
Based on current and anticipated inventories of IV fluids, we are proceeding with most scheduled elective procedures on Monday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday, Oct. 15. We are reassessing the situation to determine what is feasible for the remainder of the week and provide another update at that time.
As a reminder, please continue to do everything possible to conserve IV fluids. To support you in this effort, please review carefully the conservation playbooks that have been developed to outline the key actions we need each area to take. Please share your story about a moment or relationship that stands out or that has shaped you as a clinician, team member, or person. Video Series | Research in Motion
Have you been keeping up with the weekly video series Research in Motion? In it, researchers are asked three questions: What do you do? What do you love about your research? How will it impact human health? View the latest:
- Chongzhi Zang, PhD | "We develop new quantitative models and computational methods for analyzing high throughput data from emerging genomics technologies. A better understanding of the genetic and epigenetic code, or how the human genome works, can help us comprehend the mechanisms of many diseases like cancer, and can provide insights into novel diagnostic and therapeutic developments."
- Brynne Sullivan, MD | "In my research, we take vital sign data, analyze patterns, and then display it at the bedside as an early warning system. This can bring information to the team that improves care and saves lives, by bringing the right people to the right bedside at the right time."
- James Zimring, MD, PhD | "We study the biology and the diseases of red blood cells, which are the most abundant cell in the human body. And not only are they a source of disease during infections like malaria, but also they are themselves a treatment, because we transfuse five million Americans a year who need those transfusions to survive."
- Sameer Bajikar, PhD | "Children with neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability have very few treatment options available to them currently. Our lab is studying these diseases using a number of different tools to help understand the underlying biology that may be going awry."
Thank you to these researchers — and all our colleagues who advance medical knowledge — for conducting research that shapes the medicine we deliver tomorrow, and how we deliver it. New Research in Motion videos are posted every Friday on Connect.

IV Fluid Shortage Update
As we continue to respond to the IV fluid shortage, we are starting to see data on how much of our fluids we’ve been able to conserve since the week began with a 40% allocation. While we have seen a significant decrease in our usage of IV fluids, we must ask our various teams and units to do everything you feasibly can to conserve. In short, the more we can conserve today, the better position we will be in tomorrow and the following days. Leaders: please carry this message to your teams and communicate any barriers to your leadership.
To know what actions we need our various units to take, please reference the conservation playbooks in the Oct. 11 email from Reid Adams, MD, Chief Medical Officer; Kathy Baker, PhD, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer; and Robert D’Eramo, PharmD, MSHA, FACHE, IV Fluid Shortage Response Lead. Questions? Email IVShortage@uvahealth.org.

‘He's My Hero!’ | Kudos for Our UVA Health Colleagues
To best serve our community, UVA Health regularly surveys our patients on their healthcare experience. Below is a selection of feedback praising our team members:
- “Dr. Carter went out of his way to explain the procedure beforehand, fit my endoscopy into his schedule based on potential emergent issues regarding my case, and answer all questions post-procedure in a thorough way — including drawing an illustration so I could better understand what he had found. I am so grateful for the good care.”
- “I always feel like I'm Dr. Dowling's number one patient, but I suspect that we all do! He's kind and patient, he listens to our questions and concerns, and he makes me feel like I matter as a human being and that he is there to ensure that we are well! He's a talented surgeon and an all-around super nice human being! He's my hero!”
- “Marie Thomas is the epitome of nurses. She is professional, yet approachable and personable. Marie is kind and shows true concern in a calming manner. She is so knowledgeable, gives excellent information, and is perfectly willing to gather more information as needed. She has been comforting to my husband, grown daughter, and myself. She is very open to addressing their — and my — questions and concerns.”
Thank you to all team members for providing outstanding, compassionate, and safe care!

Critical IV Shortage Update
Following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the supply chain for Baxter International — a vendor based in North Carolina that provides 60 percent of IV products across the nation — was significantly disrupted, contributing to a shortage of IV fluids at hospitals across the United States. At this time, UVA Health is only expecting to receive a weekly allocation of 40% of its regular supply of IV fluids, meaning we must limit our use by 60% to maintain supplies for our most critical patients. For details, refer to the Oct. 8 email or read the FAQ. Questions? Email IVShortage@uvahealth.org.

As UVA Health continues on its mission to transform health and inspire hope for all Virginians and beyond — expanding capacity and offering greater access to our services for the patients, families, and communities we serve statewide remains a core element of our 10-year strategic plan.
It’s for this reason that an extensive analysis of our South Tower was recently conducted to inform how best to care for the growing needs and complexity of our patients. Now that this study has concluded, we are ready to share the long-term vision for this facility, which involves expanding across floors 6, 7, and 8 — a project expected to last through 2028. Shout Out to Our Researchers!
While many at UVA Health deliver care to our patients or educate students about the delivery of such care, our colleagues conducting research shape the medicine we deliver tomorrow — and how we deliver it. Recent examples:
- Pandemic Funding Benefits | Analysis from Taison D. Bell, MD, and colleagues (pictured) revealed how $4 billion in federal funding helped scientists understand the COVID-19 virus, develop new treatments, and deploy lifesaving vaccines in record time.
- Toxic Gummies | Avery Michienzi, DO, and colleagues at UVA’s Blue Ridge Poison Center warned the public about undisclosed hallucinogens and other potentially harmful ingredients in mushroom gummies being sold under the guise of boosting brain function.
- Better Health for Rural Virginia | A sweeping Health Blueprint for Southwest Virginia produced by David Driscoll, PhD, and collaborators across the region identifies solutions to complex problems that will help rural residents live longer, healthier lives.
- Stopping Shin Splints | Outdoor gait training may help treadmill runners overcome stubborn shin splits, research from David J. Hryvniak, DO, and collaborators suggests.
- Conquering Crohn’s | Remarkable work by undergraduate Rebecca Pierce in the lab of Chelsea Marie, PhD, may help explain recurrent Crohn’s disease in children and open the door to new ways to treat or even cure the devastating condition.
This is only a sampling of the research that occurs here daily. (More can be found in the UVA Health Newsroom.) We’re grateful to these team members and to all who expand our knowledge of medical science. Thank you, researchers!

UVA Health Pharmacies Now Offering Flu and COVID Vaccines for Younger Patients
Patients as young as 5 years old may now receive their COVID vaccine at UVA Health retail pharmacies, and patients 3 and older may now receive their flu vaccine at UVA Health retail pharmacies. Previously, pharmacy appointments for these vaccines were available only for patients 12 and older. While most children receive these vaccines from their primary care provider, expansion of pharmacy appointments to this population offers busy caregivers another convenient option.
As a reminder, patients may seek a flu or COVID vaccine from UVA Health via the following avenues:
- Patients may call their primary care provider to schedule a vaccine appointment (availability will vary).
- As part of a regularly scheduled clinic appointment.
- By scheduling a pharmacy vaccine appointment through MyChart or by calling 434.297.4829 (appointment required, no walk-ins; 5+ for COVID, 3+ for flu).
- Very young children (under 5 for COVID and under 3 for flu) must schedule a vaccine appointment with their primary care provider.

Celebrating National Physician Assistant Week
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Council wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to our team of over 100 dedicated physician assistants (PAs) during National PA Week, which runs Oct. 6-12. We celebrate your invaluable contributions to patient care across our health system. This year’s theme, “PAs Go Beyond,” perfectly illustrates the PA’s core mission and values of practicing medicine with skill and excellence, as well as compassionate and thoughtful patient care.
Physician assistants are integral to delivering high quality, patient-centered care. Their ability to work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals ensures our patients receive comprehensive and compassionate treatment. The expertise and commitment they bring to their roles not only enhances patient outcomes but also elevates the entire healthcare experience. A recent illustration of PA practice influence was highlighted by the numerous PAs being nominated in multiple categories for APP Week.
During this special week, we recognize their hard work, resilience, and adaptability, especially in the face of evolving healthcare challenges. PAs’ commitment to lifelong learning and professional development empowers them to stay at the forefront of medical advancements and evidence-based medicine, ensuring patients receive the best care possible.
Please join us in thanking our PAs for their dedication, compassion, and unwavering support to our communities. Their contributions do not go unnoticed, and we celebrate them not just this week, but every day.

Appreciation
‘Patience, Care, and Compassion’ | Kudos for Our UVA Health Colleagues
To best serve our community, UVA Health regularly surveys our patients on their healthcare experience. Below is a selection of feedback praising our team members:
- “The Transplant team are some of the most caring, compassionate people I've ever met — the nurses, doctors, janitors, and food servers made a life-changing experience one of the best things to ever happen to me.”
- “I cannot begin to tell you how impressed and humbled I am by my experience as a patient at UVA Health. I know I will be a better person as a result of how well I was treated. There was so much patience, care, and compassion — not to mention sheer brilliance, expertise, and competence. Dr. Sook Hoang and her entire team in the OR gave me confidence, even though I was inwardly very nervous. I thank them for their kindness in putting up with me right up until the moment that anesthesia overtook me. My recovery room nurse was so sweet and spoke so softly and comfortingly. My day and night nurses were all amazing. Matt, my night nurse, had such a kind, quiet way about him and always allowed me to wake up gradually when he entered the room. Even the staff who delivered my meals went above and beyond, always asking if I could think of anything else I needed. My discharge nurse, Aileen, stuck with me during the whole discharge procedure and delivered me safely to my daughter's car. She even made sure I got a flu shot. I cannot thank everyone enough for what they did!”
- “I was late due to traffic congestion from an interstate accident. The team and Dr. James Browne were wonderful and said if I could make it to the clinic before the clinic ended, I would be seen that day. This is a true focus on the patient and was an enormous display of patient empathy. Everyone on the team — from the scheduler to the nurse to Dr. Browne — were wonderfully accommodating, given the accident and traffic congestion.”
- “It goes without saying that Dr. Yoshida is known to be a treasure. The other people I dealt with were also uniformly skilled, professional, and pleasant. I was very impressed by the care my principal nurse, Jefferson, provided. For instance, he took more care than anyone else ever has in choosing and then stabilizing one of my rolling veins for the IV stick. As a result, it was not only painless but left not a trace later. This seemed all the more remarkable because on a prior colonoscopy, it took three people and multiple sticks to establish a line.”
Thank you to all team members for providing outstanding, compassionate, and safe care!

Appreciation
‘Uplifting Experience’
Eight Harrisonburg Media Group radio stations raised $25,613 for UVA Health Children’s on Sept. 26 in the first Valley Cares for Kids Radiothon. UVA Health team members, radio station staff, and community members volunteered to answer calls and process donations via a live phone bank, text, and online.
“When I heard about the UVA Health Children’s Radiothon, I knew I had to volunteer,” says Debbie Diehl. “I have grandchildren who have needed UVA Health, and the doctors and staff provided awesome care for each of them. This experience has been uplifting and I will help again!”
Each year, more than 30,000 patients from Harrisonburg and surrounding counties visit UVA Health Children’s. The event also broadcast stories of UVA Health Children’s patients and their families and care providers.
UVA Health’s Erin Chandler reports the funds support initiatives including UVA Health Children’s Patient and Family-Centered Care program, pediatric research, and the purchase and update of specialized equipment critical to patient care.
