We Socked It to ‘Em: See the Results!
'Tis the season for giving, and UVA Health team members once again generously donated new pairs of socks to support those in need in the Charlottesville community. The goal? 10,000! The results? We stepped it up — this year's final count is 11,700!
Socktober’s mission is to keep feet warm, dry, and clean in local communities. Clean socks are the top requested — yet least donated — item at homeless shelters. Living on the street, many unsheltered individuals rarely take their shoes off, walk often, and don’t always have access to laundry facilities.
The new socks will be donated to The Salvation Army. The top three departments that kicked into higher gear to contribute the most new socks will win catered events. They are (drumroll ... ):
- Clinical Engineering
- Population Health
- Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Ivy
The top department also earns a trophy!
Weekly winners earning cookie platters are:
- Clinical Engineering
- Radiology
- Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Ivy
- Outpatient Surgery Center at Battle Building
The other departments also being recognized for their contributions this year and receiving a treat are:
- 5C
- PACU
- Continuum Health
- Heart and Vascular at Fontaine
A representative from each winning department above should contact Chadwick French, System Director of Retail and Marketing, UVA Health, Morrison Healthcare, at cf4cp@hscmail.mcc.virginia.edu, for prize coordination after Thanksgiving.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in Socktober this year," says French. "It’s inspiring to see our community come together for such a great cause and a wonderful way to give back!”
