July 1, 2022, marks a significant milestone for UVA Health: the one-year anniversary of welcoming UVA Community Health into our enterprise. The acquisition was an unprecedented step for UVA Health and included medical centers in Prince William, Haymarket, and Culpeper, the UVA Community Health Medical Group and dozens of primary and specialty clinics. 

The acquisition supports leadership’s vision of expanding UVA Health into an integrated health system that provides world-class care to patients across the Commonwealth. It is expected to strengthen our ability to:

• improve patient outcomes
• deliver quality care to our local communities 
• provide a more streamlined continuum of care for our patients 
• give more Virginians access to specialized care and ground-breaking clinical trials at our academic medical center in Charlottesville
• assign clinical rotations to our nursing students, allied health students, medical students, medical residents, and specialty fellows.

During the past year, the focus has been on migrating UVA Community Health systems and processes from their previous owner, Novant Health. This work, which is expected to be completed by June 2023, has included the introduction of a new benefits package, adoption of an interim payroll system and organizational changes within UVA Community Health. We also integrated our marketing and communications teams and developed a singular UVA Health brand that has been in deployed in multiple consumer awareness and patient acquisition campaigns. 

In the months ahead, our transition work will continue under the project name, “One Team | United on Integration,” and will include adopting a common instance of Epic within all of our hospitals and clinics, onboarding providers through a standardized, system-wide process, and optimizing areas such as strategy, legal services, payor contracting, ambulatory services, IT, finance, and clinical operations.

The leadership teams across the expanded UVA Health enterprise express deep gratitude for all of the important work accomplished in this critical first year and look forward to another productive and successful year ahead!
