Whitney Mallory, Clinical Social Worker, is a team member who is always looking to help out her colleagues. She recently assisted her social-work team in helping a patient who had difficulty seeing to fill out their paperwork. 

A UVA Health team member nominated Whitney for a BEE Award for this simple act of assistance. Whitney received the honor at a surprise ceremony on her unit. Read the full nomination below.

“Whitney has always been a pleasure to work with. She is new to the social-work game, but she is knowledgeable and always willing to help out her teammates regardless of ‘job duties.’ [Recently,] Whitney asked if there would be anything she can do to help take some stress off the floor social workers, as it was busy and the consults kept rolling in. I asked Whitney if she would be comfortable with assisting a patient in completing forms to help him discharge to a rehabilitation facility. 

“At the time when I dropped the forms off to this patient, I was unaware that that the patient has difficulty seeing and does not have glasses with him. Due to staffing on this day and the number of consults that needed to be seen, I was unable to sit with the patient to fill out the form. However, Whitney volunteered herself to sit with the patient and assisted him with completing the forms. On top of that, she provided him with companionship and encouraged him to keep going to meet his goals to make real life changes and got him some clothing for discharged purposes, so that the covering social workers would not have to worry about it at discharge. Whitney went above and beyond to help, not only her fellow floor social workers, but this patient as well. Whitney always helps out where she can regardless of what it is and is such an amazing asset to the social-work team.”
