The Earn While You Learn Program is now hiring for the October Certified Nursing Aide, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, and Phlebotomy programs. These positions are open to current Medical Center employees. Links to the programs can be found on the Earn While You Learn webpage.  

Program information and details:

• Trainees will spend half of their hours completing their educational program; the other half of their time will be spent in observational rotations, precepted patient care experience, or other educational efforts.
• Those completing the training programs are expected to work within the field of training at UVA for 1-year commitment.
• Training costs are free. 
• Training programs require transfer to the program during the training process to ensure educational opportunities and schedules are supported.
• Placement after training will vary between programs.
• Each training program has certain educational, attendance, and testing requirements. These must be met to complete the training program. In the event a trainee is unsuccessful with the requirements, opportunity and support will be provided to place them in an available job opening.
• Employee must be in their current role for 1 year before transfer, unless their current manager waives this requirement. (Per policy HR116.)
• Be aware some of the positions require shift, weekend, and holiday rotations. Participants are encouraged to do research to ensure this is the right opportunity for them. It is also encouraged for participants to explore the salary ranges for the roles they are interested in to be sure it is a good fit.
• In an effort to avoid creating staffing crisis in any department, we will be regulating those entering Earn While You Learn to avoid over-stressing any single department.  
• We anticipate offering programs three times per year — October, February, and June.
• Proper notice is required for transfer — 30 days for internal team members. 
• Deadlines | For the Emergency Medical Technician and Certified Nurse Assistant positions, applications will be accepted until Monday, Sept. 19. Phlebotomist and Certified Medical Assistant applications will be accepted until Monday, Oct. 3.
